Therapy and Healing

Reiki Known as: Energy Medicine

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means "universal life energy. Many cultures, throughout history believe energy flows through all living things, including human beings. This universal life energy is called prana in India, chi in China and ki in Japan. Reiki was based on ancient Buddhist scripture, developed by Japanese educator, Mikao Usui in the mid 1800's and introduce in the US in the 1930's. The Reiki practitioner administers gentle placement of their hands on prescribed areas of the client's body for three to five minutes, while fully clothed. The purpose is to balance and enhance the client's energy in the body and in the surrounding energy field. The Reiki practitioner uses their hands, to transmit subtle energy. This energy is not easily measured as in traditional medicine but it has shown reduced anxiety and increase in relaxation, pain relief, accelerated wound healing and boost immune systems.

Who can benefit: According to Natural Healing, the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, November 2003, reported advanced cancer patients who received Reiki treatments in addition to traditional medicine to manage pain shown improved pain control and better quality of life.

Also, Holistic Nursing Practice, November-December 2006 reported Reiki therapy reduce pain and anxiety following abdominal hysterectomy.

As well as, Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, May/June 2004. indicated Reiki has aided in reducing symptoms of depression and improving behavior and memory issues in patients suffering from mild cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's.

A typical Reiki session last 60 to 90 minutes. The client is clothed and lies on a massage table. The practitioner performs a guided meditation, then gently places both hands on 10 -12 positions of the body. The client may experience heat, vibration or chills. The fee is $40.

Mindfulness Meditation:

Mindfulness meditation offers powerful techniques leading to effective ways of dealing with difficult emotions. Learning to “just observe” thoughts and feelings associated with emotional discomfort, one can experience unpleasant situations without feeling trapped in them. Pleasant situations can be experienced without a sense of neediness.  Even if the situations triggering the difficult emotions cannot be changed, various techniques for achieving calm, concentration and useful insights can radically transform the subjective suffering and the ability to deal with the situation.

So what is meditation good for? Meditation skills and techniques can be applied to all aspects of life situations or human life. Techniques can provide solutions to issues of suffering which may include anxiety, anger, depression, stress, physical pain, trauma, and other life challenges.

Extensive research at the Mindfulness - Based Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center supports the effectiveness of Mindfulness techniques as having powerful effects on mental health issues and chronic pain management.

EAR CANDLING

Ear Candling is believed to clear the sinuses and detoxify the lymphatic system which creates an overall sense of well being. Ear Candling helps to relieve ear pain and pressure in the sinuses allowing the ear wax to exit the canal naturally.

The process takes app. 45 minutes. The ear candle is a long tapered hollow tube made from 100% beeswax. The individual lie on their side, placing the bottom of the hollow tube shape candle in the ear canal. The candle is lit allowing the smoke to swirl down into the ear canal which softens and loosens impacted ear wax.

EMDR Trauma

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Developed by Francine Shapiro, New York City psychologist in the 1980's, it has been used with great success in helping individuals overcome various traumas using primarily bilateral stimulation usually in the form of eye movements, but also sometimes tactile stimulation.
There is a great deal of evidence that bilateral stimulation speeds up the reprocessing of disturbing emotional events or traumatic material and at the same time helps the client in making contact with that material in a sager way than with traditional therapy.
Rev. McCormick was trained and certified by Dr. Erantha DeMel who has used this technique extensively and with great success especially with post traumatic stress disorder. Much of his current research is based on the tremendous healing experienced by the victims of the Tsumani in his home country of Sri Lanka. The science is fascinating. The results are astounding. Usually a client requires only 2 or 3 sessions to clear a traumatic event. For a consult call 570.506.1826 or email michael511@me.com More info is available at Impeccable-Living.com
